In this paper, SrAl2O4:Eu2+ (europium doped strontium aluminate) phosphors were synthesized using a combustion synthesis method with urea as a fuel at 400-600 °C. The crystal structure, particle size, color emitted and elemental analysis were studied using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), CIE and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra. The FTIR spectra confirm the elements present in the SrAl2O4:Eu2+ phosphor. A broad emission band can be seen in the emission spectrum of the Eu2+ doped SrAl2O4 sample. A peak around 500 nm is associated with the 4f65d1–4f7 transition. The optical properties of SrAl2O4:Eu2+ phosphors were investigated by photoluminescence (PL). The excitation and emission spectra showed a wavelength peak at 337 and 515 nm, respectively. The CIE color chromaticity confirm that the SrAl2O4:Eu2+ phosphor emitted green colored light. Europioum-doped strontium aluminate is used as indicators, as they emit light when exposed by light. They also useful for fabricating mechano-optical nanodevices.
